At KlikNote, we believe that your thoughts, notes, and browsing data belong exclusively to you. Our core engineering philosophy is rooted in absolute privacy, data isolation, and transparency. This Privacy Policy outlines exactly how KlikNote handles data—or more accurately, how we ensure your data never reaches us.

1. The Core Philosophy: 100% Local-First

KlikNote is architected as a local-first application.

  • No Server Roundtrips: Your notes, text captures, titles, metadata, and configuration settings are processed and stored entirely on your local machine.
  • No Accounts Required: You do not need to create an account, provide an email address, or authenticate to use KlikNote.

2. Information Collection and Storage

Because we do not use external cloud databases or central servers, we cannot collect, access, view, or sell your personal information.

  • Application Data: All captured content is securely committed to your browser's isolated local database instance via IndexedDB. This data remains locked to your physical device.
  • Browser Permissions:
    • contextMenus: Used exclusively to add the "Add to KlikNote" shortcut to your right-click menu, allowing you to seamlessly capture text highlights from active tabs.
    • storage: Used solely to track local, client-side user experience configuration preferences (such as light mode or dark mode toggles).

3. Data Portability: You Control Your Files

Your data is entirely under your control. KlikNote includes built-in backup and restoration features (the Import/Export Data Wizard).

  • When you choose to export your logs, a .csv file is compiled entirely on the client side and saved to your device's native download directory.
  • When you use the Import Wizard, file parsing happens locally within your browser tab to re-seed your local IndexedDB instance. No files are ever uploaded to an external server during this lifecycle.

4. Third-Party Services and Analytics

  • No Telemetry Tracking: We do not use third-party analytics software, tracking pixels, or user behavior telemetry packages.
  • No Trackers: KlikNote operates quietly and efficiently without injecting background scripts that monitor your browsing behavior or network requests.

5. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may occasionally update this Privacy Policy to reflect minor feature iterations. However, our foundational commitment to a local-first, zero-collection data model will never change. Any updates to this policy will be reflected by the "Last Updated" timestamp at the top of this page.
